When we study how the human body can perform in very hot or cold environments it is really important to understand how energy is transferred from one place to another. So for example, heat can be transferred from the human body by evaporation (through sweat), conduction and convection. Understanding how the body loses heat helps us understand how we can survive in very hot or cold conditions.
