Air is actually just under 80% Nitrogen. The bit we need to survive, oxygen, is only about 20% of the air we breathe! So our bodies are pretty efficient at getting what it needs from the air we breathe!

As Liam says, air is a mixture of different gases. Even though we need oxygen to survive, it only makes up little more than 20% of the air around us, about 0.03% is carbon dioxide, and the rest Nitrogen.
