      Hi heleanor,

      Brilliant question! I think that exercise is the key to living a long and happy life, and who doesn’t want that! I ran a half marathon at the weekend and the man who finished just behind me was 77 years old! He’s over 50 years older than me and he almost beat me! I was so embarrassed!
      All of the scientists who work in exercise physiology strongly believe that movement and exercise prevents many diseases like diabetes and and heart disease, these are huge killers in the world today. The world health organisation (part of the United Nations) say that physical inactivity, ie people not doing exercise is the 4th biggest reason people die in the world, thats HUGE!
      Not only does is save our lives and prolong our lives, I think this area of knowledge greatly increases our knowledge of ourselves as humans. By knowing how we react to pressure like strenuous exercise and altitude or depth, we can treat diseases and make people perform better.
      I genuinely believe that moving around and maintaining our muscles is the most important things we can do for our health.
