      That’s a really good question, and I don’t know the exact answer! If you dive using compressed gas so that you can stay underwater for longer,ther are risks associated with small bubbles from the gas you are breathing getting into your blood stream which can cause damage to your lungs and other tissues. The deepest depth for an average person scuba diving is recommended to be 40m, although people who are trained to scuba dive for their job can go a lot deeper (up to 300m!).

      Free divers dive without gas, and hold their breath for the entire dive. They can dive up to 270m if they use fins to help them, and the biggest risk to them is the amount of time that they go without breathing, which means their oxygen levels get very low. If you imagine that they average house is about 9 metres, these are incredible depths for humans to dive to!
