The most complex study i have been part of involved putting participants into hypoxia, fatiguing their thigh muscles and then taking muscle biopsies from their legs over a period of hours. It meant having seven muscle biopsies, a cannula in the vein to take blood, a cannula to infuse a fluid called leucine and lots of other measures.
